According to documents provided by members of the church:

Geneva Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1906 by the
members of the Hortense Community.

It was organized on Tuesday, Sept. 4th, 1906.

The name "Geneva" was said to have been suggest by one of
the Dierks brothers.

The land for the church was donated by Herman Dierks,
Chairman of the Board of Directors, on behalf of the Dierks
Lumber and Coal Co.

When the Hortense Post Office was discontinued, the
community became known by the name of the church and is still
known as Geneva Community.

The original church was a two story building which burned down
in 1932.

A new building was built to replace the one that had burned and
then it was enlarged in 1962.

In 1976 the third building was built and was remodeled in 1996.

This third building is the current church building and fellowship
hall.
